I. Profile

Harbin Institute of Petroleum (HIP) is an application-oriented undergraduate institution focusing on engineering while promoting multidisciplinary development. Adhering to a "local, application-oriented, and open" positioning, HIP is committed to cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents with innovative spirit and practical abilities, providing talent support for the revitalization of Heilongjiang Province and the national energy industry.


Founded in 2003, HIP has evolved through several stages, including Daqing Petroleum College Huarui College and Northeast Petroleum University Huarui College. In 2012, it was renamed Harbin Institute of Petroleum with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The institute passed the national undergraduate teaching qualification assessment in 2020 and was approved as a Heilongjiang Provincial Master's Degree Granting Development Unit in 2024.


II. Educational Features

HIP offers 37 undergraduate programs, with engineering disciplines accounting for 70% of the total. The institute has established key disciplinary clusters in mechanical engineering, electronic information, and energy power, including:


· Mechatronics Engineering, a provincial-level key construction discipline;

· Petroleum Engineering and Internet of Things Engineering, selected as provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs;

· Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering and Energy Chemical Engineering, ranked among the top nationally.


HIP has deepened collaboration with leading enterprises such as Huawei, Qiaxin, and Kylin Software, jointly establishing:


· 8 modern industry colleges;

· 8 research institutes;

· 36 enterprise-sponsored classes;

· 167 off-campus practice and training bases;

· 3 student-founded companies.


The employment rate for key programs has exceeded 95% for ten consecutive years, forming a comprehensive "professional cluster—modern industry college" education system.


III. Faculty Strength

HIP has built a faculty matrix of "professor-led, industry-authoritative, and dual-qualified mentors," including:


· 3 Heilongjiang Provincial Teaching Masters;

· 1 Provincial Model Teacher and 2 Provincial Outstanding Teachers;

· 20 faculty members appointed as part-time master's supervisors at other universities;

· Faculty teams awarded 1 first prize and 4 second prizes in provincial teaching achievement awards.


Many teachers hold certifications from leading technology companies like Huawei and Qiaxin, with the proportion of "dual-qualified" teachers continuously increasing.


IV. Achievements

· The University Physics Experiment Center was approved as a provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center;

· The Information Technology Virtual Simulation and Intelligent Construction Experiment Teaching Centers received provincial recognition;

· Faculty won 1 first prize and 3 third prizes in provincial teaching innovation competitions;

· First prize in the National Finals of the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press "Teaching Stars" competition;

· Ranked first for multiple years in the Alumni Association China Geology, Mining, and Petroleum Private University rankings;

· Recognized as a "Chinese Benchmark Private University" and "Outstanding Chinese Private Higher Education Institution";

· Awarded Heilongjiang Provincial "Ethics Advanced Collective" and "Graduate Employment and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Unit";

· The 2025 "Ice Print Admission Notice" gained recognition and promotion by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


V. Development Plan

Short-Term Goals (2026):

Prepare for the Ministry of Education's undergraduate education and teaching audit evaluation, establish a robust education quality assurance system, and achieve connotative, distinctive, and innovative development.


Mid-Term Goals (2029):

Complete the construction of a master's degree granting unit, aiming to:


· Recruit over 50 new faculty with doctoral degrees;

· Increase the proportion of faculty with master's degrees or higher to 90%;

· Raise the proportion of faculty with doctoral degrees to no less than 25%;

· Ensure each master's program has 2-3 high-level academic leaders.


VI. International Cooperation

HIP has established partnerships with nearly 50 universities worldwide, facilitating faculty and student exchanges, academic collaboration, and degree advancement programs. The institute implements a "major + foreign language" talent cultivation model, building bridges for students to pursue further studies abroad. HIP remains committed to open education, collaborating with global partners to create a new landscape in higher education internationalization.
