Recently, the Red Cross Society of China announced the first batch of "National Red Cross Model Units," and Guangdong Technology College was among the honorees. On April 7, the Zhaoqing City Red Cross presented the plaque to Guangdong Technology College and held a recognition event for hematopoietic stem cell donors.
This selection process covered urban and rural communities, schools, Red Cross volunteer service organizations, enterprises, and public institutions nationwide. A total of 97 schools across the country received this honor, including three in Guangdong Province, with Guangdong Technology College being one of them.
Students Li Jialiang and Zeng Yuyang from Guangdong Technology College successfully donated hematopoietic stem cells at Southern Medical University Zhujiang Hospital and the Chinese People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command General Hospital, respectively. They became the 9th and 13th hematopoietic stem cell donors in Zhaoqing City.
During the event, the two students shared their experiences of undergoing hematopoietic stem cell collection and donation. They expressed hope that everyone would contribute their love and efforts within their capabilities.
Chen Yigui, Vice President of the Zhaoqing City Red Cross, stated that in recent years, Guangdong Technology College has integrated the Red Cross spirit of "Humanity, Fraternity, and Dedication" with its educational philosophy of fostering virtue and nurturing talents. This integration has been embedded into academic teaching and social activities, including public welfare initiatives such as blood donation, hematopoietic stem cell donation, and the promotion of Red Cross emergency rescue knowledge, all of which have achieved positive results.
It is reported that the Zhaoqing City Red Cross has prioritized hematopoietic stem cell donation work as a key brand project. Since achieving a breakthrough with the first donation in 2016, the city has recorded a total of 13 cases to date.
